Abstract

Abstract:This study is aimed to describe the ability of the eleventh grade students of junior high school in Palembang in writing argumentative essay. Besides, this study is also aimed to find out the moveaknesses of the argumentative essay from several points of view. It is hoped that this study can be benefical to help the students developing their writing ability, and can be the positive input to increase the teaching quality of Bahasa Indonesia, specifically the teaching of writing skill. The method used in this study is descriptive method with 155 students as the samples taken from the data of the eleventh grade students of junior high school in Palembang. The data collection was done by scoring based on the level. After collecting the data, it was found that the eleventh grade students of junior high school in Palembang have the average writing argumentative essay ability. Based onthe result, it can be concluded that the percentage of the students writing argumentative essay ability in the high level is 0%, in the average leve lis 71,61%, and in the low leve lis 28,38%. Keywords:Writing, Argumentative , students Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan kemampuan siswa SMP Negeri Sekota Palembang kelas IX menulis karangan argumentasi. Disamping itu dicari kelemahan/kekurangan karangan argumentasi dilihat dari aspek-aspeknya.Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat bermanfaat membantu siswa mengembangkan keterampilan menulis, dan dapat dijadikan masukan bagi peningkatan mutu pengajaran bahasa Indonesia khususnya pengajaran menulis. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. Sampel berjumlah 155 orang dengan sumber data siswa kelas IX SMP Negeri di Kota Palembang. Teknik pengolahan data dengan cara penskoran dan mencari nilai rata-rata karangan siswa kemudian menentukan persentasenya berdasarkan tingkatannya. Hasil penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IX SMP Negeri Kota Palembang mempunyai kemampuan sedang dalam menulis karangan argumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil yang didapat disimpulkan bahwa Persentase kemampuan menulis karangan argumentasi siswa berkemampuan tinggi sebesar 0 %, siswa berkemampuan sedang 71,61%, dan siswa berkemampuan rendah sebesar 28,38%.
