Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has an impact on the increasing popularity of digital literature which was previously underestimated compared to printed literature. One of the new media which is used as media expression is podcast. Podcast as an object of digital literature studies has not been widely researched. This study aims to uncover the meaning behind the change of Eka Kurniawan's short story "Persekot" (“Advance”) which was adapted in the @budayakita podcast which was launched during the pandemic. By using a qualitative method based on a intermediality approach and Freidan's concept of femininity (1974), it was found that transformation media from short stories to podcast as audio media resulted in a shift in the narrator's dialogue and a different reconstruction of femininity. The female characters in the podcast version undergo a transformation from being passive and only as object, turn into woman who has power and subjectivity over herself. The meaning of "persekot" (“advance”) in the podcast has also shifted from the short story version. Thus, it can be concluded, the reconstruction of femininity in the @budayakita podcast version of "Persekot" can be interpreted as an effort to foster gender awareness of femininity, which is a social construction in society. Furthermore, the digitization of Indonesian literature in the @budayakita podcast can be seen as an effort to bring literary works more closer to society and provide entertainment media for mental health during the pandemic, given that podcasts are a popular digital medium today
