Abstract

Success Stories from Thailand via the OTOP (one tambon one product), which is known as product development program in an area (Tambon) were successful in helping the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). There are many approaches to the various regions in developing their full potential and in accordance with the characteristics of the local specialties, including public policy development efforts. The purpose of this paper focuses providing public policy advice to local governments how to develop and empower a superior product. This is necessary because of competition from outside the SMEs will always hold their development, the magnitude and diversity of SMEs in the region are also a challenge, besides the lack of data and information about the presence and profile of SMEs makes it difficult for local governments to determine the high potential of SMEs to grow . The methodology used in this paper refers to the assessment of each alternative products based assessment based on statistical data and conduct Focus Group disscussion (FGD) with all the representatives of stakeholders to define policy alternatives to be taken in the context of the development of superior products that have been identified.
