Abstract

This study analyzed six semantic roles types and function in the sentence based on Dowty’s book. The problems of study were 1). What were the types of semantic roles based on Dowty? 2).What was semantic roles functions in sentences? The purpose of this study was to identify types and function of semantic roles found. It was known that, there were six types of semantic roles written on Dowty’s book, such as agent, patient, experiencer, theme, source, and goal. This study used library research design to find the answer of problems. It was found that agent, patient, theme, experiencer, source and goal were types of semantic roles. From each types, they represent different function. Agent, patient, and experiencer functioned as subject and object. Theme and source functioned as subject, object, and adverb. Meanwhile, goal functioned as object and verb.
