Abstract

In general, all universities in southern sumatera province have similar academic business processes and information system needs. But in reality every university to build the architecture and components of academic system individually. Currently not yet available a model or architecture of academic system that is appropriate and suitable applied in the institution of college in the province of South Sumatra especially in the city of Palembang. Based on a preliminary survey of 6 private universities in Palembang city, the architecture and components of the existing academic system are mostly only within the limited scope of certain universities. And also have not considered various viewpoints, such as based on the architecture of what kind of system will be built and how to build it, whether it is dynamic that can be enabled to make changes before it is implemented so that the risk of cost and failure can be reduced. These issues form the basis of thinking to design a model of academic system of IT-based private universities as well as guidance to provide direction for component arrangement, development, implementation and service. This research uses EAP planning methodology. The findings in this study are the design of data architecture, application architecture and technology architecture. Research produces an architectural model of an IT-based academic system with services including new admissions, academic management and academic discharge.
